What are we Looking For?

So since the last time I posted two people have raised interest in Rosie, unfortunately neither were suitable or felt they were right for her, so thought I'd do this quick post on what we're looking for in a home for Rosie.

Rosie is a foxhound, which maybe something people need to take into consideration before applying to her. There isn't much information on foxhounds on the internet, but one thing that is said is that they 'aren't suitable as pets'. Personally I feel this can't be said about Rosie, maybe thats because she's a bit older and her more energetic days are over. Really Rosie is a full on couch potato. She loves relaxing on the sofa and giving cuddles so she really is looking for a home where she will be treat as a pet. Her breed does mean she will use her nose and if she catches a scent there is a potential for her to run off.

For this reason Rosie needs a home with a high (at least 6ft) securely fenced garden, preferably quite large so she can run and play. For the same reason of her potential prey drive, Rosie can never be let off lead. It would be too much of a risk to her if she did catch scent and ran off as she wouldn't respond to calls if that happened. Her recall isn't brilliant as it is but considerably better than when she first came to us.

I do have a secret love for Rosie and for that reason as well as our strict rehoming process I am waiting for the right home to come along. I don't care if this means I have to say no to several people before the right owner comes along.

Rosie does like having other dogs and if shes been used to working, she will probably feel lonely without them around. However if an owner didn't have a dog it would be okay as long as they rarely left her. She can be left for short periods of time, and likes having the TV on during this time.

Don't think theres much to say, the right home will come along for Rosie... I'm sure of it. For now though she is happily curled up on the armchair, feet twitching away, loving living in a warm house with shelter overhead :)

Happy New Year

Firstly I'd like to apologise for my lack of postings over the past month. The rescue is often very quiet over the Christmas period in terms of rehoming and we all had a small break over Christmas meaning phone calls have not been answered unless its an emergency. A few dogs will be moving on to their new homes for the new year. Unfortunately Rosie is still with us with nobody registering interest in adopting her. New year new home for Rosie we hope.

We all had a lovely Christmas here, Rosie enjoyed her first Christmas in a home as part of a family. She opened her presents in the morning then enjoyed chewing on her Christmas hoof before going to steal a pigs ear out of everybodies gift bag. She is such a little thief but when she gives you her special mischievous look with a tilted head you can't help but love her.

Boxing day brought snow to West Yorkshire and Rosie absolutely loved it. She was constantly running around the garden trying to play rolling around and digging her nose in the snow. She even thought it would give her the height to attempt to jump the fence again but if she knows shes been watched she won't even try. I kind of hope the New Year brings more snow to see the pure joy on Rosies face when the snow is deep.

Rosie is doing very well on the housetraining front, she now only has accidents when she is left, even for the smallest amount of time which we think is due to stress. Rosie loves to go out now which is a change from when she first came and really is an explorer, sniffing absolutely everywhere. New Year started with a fright for Rosie with her fear of fireworks. It was horrible seeing my sweet foster girl trembling and trying to get behind the sofa she was so scared. Tinks joined her though and tried to sit underneath her so they were scared together. Rosie does amaze me, even though her breed suggests she is a hunting dog Rosie is perfect with other dogs, she will just sniff quietly and if they try to play she lets them. She has only had a go at Binx and Sally once when they were trying to eat under her nose, and I can't say I blame her. She didn't bite, just barked at them to go away. Fingers crossed they have learnt their lesson.

So my last message will be to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and please think could you offer a forever home this year, could you be Rosies forever owner, her forever sofa, her companion and could you have her as your own for the rest of her life
