About Me

So you must have read my blog and want to know a bit more about me? My names Lucy, I'm 21 and I'm from Huddersfield. I started fostering for West Yorkshire Dog Rescue in March 2012 after quitting uni and absolutely love it. I have since graduated with a HND in Animal Management and really don't know what I want to do in my future. I do work at Pets at Home currently and am looking to progress but who knows what can change in time.

What Experience Do I Have with Dogs?

I have had dogs literally all my life. My first dog Ben was a cairn terrier and he was their from the day I was born, till I was around 9 when he sadly died at the age of 18 and a half. A couple of years before this my mum got me my second dog, Em. Em was a collie cross and we got her when she was around 18 months old from Marina Dog Kennels. We had no idea of her past but she was very scared and didn't seem to have the best past. I pretty much grew up with Em and she was not only my companion but my best friend. We were so close that when I went to live with my dad she kept running away from my mums to get to me until the day we took her in to live here. Sadly Em died in December 2011 at the age of 14. Shortly after Ben died we got my scruffy dog Sally. She was only 6 months old when we got her and was a skinny little thing, also from Marina Dog Kennels. Sally is now 11 and still going strong. Through all this my mum has also had 3 dogs which I have had a lot of responsibility in caring for. Buster, a yorkshire terrier, who is now 10, Beau, a chocolate toy poodle, who is now 6, Jasmine, a black miniature poodle, who is now 5. All of which she has had since puppies. I was mainly responsible for helping the two poodles go the right way and did a lot of training with them when they were puppies and also a lot of playing in return for plenty of cuddles. I have also had to help Buster when he took very ill and was in intensive care and took time off school to take care of him and help him recuperate, since then he bonded to me much more and was so thankful. Jasmine and Beau have had 1 litter of 3 puppies before they were both neutered. I looked after them a lot before they went to their new homes. So thats it. I've had puppies, through to oldies and I've been there through 2 very sad deaths. And of course I've failed at fostering. First I adopted Tinks in July 2012. She was my runaway foster dog, who I just couldn't let go and now she's one spoilt girl and then in November 2013 I adopted Mr Binx, my cairn boy who was snappy with every other cairn who came with potential owners. My theory? Neither of them wanted to leave... so they didn't!!

Feel free to ask me any questions :)
