No real Updates

So no real updates since I'm foster free and going away tomorrow but I will update next week and hopefully we will be getting Oscar on Saturday :)

Currently in the rescue:
Waffle - 5 year old horse friendly whippet cross
Roxy - 1 year old loveable labrador cross
Patch - 6 year old collie cross
Barnaby - 2 year old collie x jack russel
Nya - 3 year old Akita
Tigger - 1 year old staffie cross
Gaynor - 5 year old staffie
Doris and Dixie - Pair of 10 year old jack russels
Cinders - 10 year old poodle cross

Bracken - Lurcher
Taz - 7 year old jack russel
Vikki - 1 year old jack russel x chihuahua
Bobby - 2 year old yorkie
Lottie and Charlie - Pair of 9 year old Yorkshire terriers
Sophie and Murphy - 7 year old westie and border terrier
Florence - 6 year old dalmation
Poppy - 6 month old crossbreed

Hugo - 2 year old jack russel
Hugo is another one of our long termers and I really can't understand why. I've met him myself and all he wants is fuss! He is a real mischievous little boy and he really does have one of the most fun, amazing characters and a typical little jack russel. Hugo is a really great dog but will need experienced owners to deal with his huge character. Although first anxious when meeting new dogs Hugo needs to be rehomed with another young, playful dog as he loves to play! Due to not being accustomed to children Hugo needs a home with no young children but could go to a home with teenagers. Hugo can not be rehomed with cats!

So thats all for now, will update next week hopefully. Lucy, Tinks and Sally x

Next Dog

So as I've said I won't be getting a new foster now until I come back off holiday the first weekend in August however I can now tell you what I'm getting with pictures!

This absolutely adorable young man is Oscar! Oscar is a 9 month old terrier crossbreed (apparently lakeland cross border). I don't feel I can say much about him just yet other than he is just adorable! Oscar is a hand in and so is used to living in a family home. He is both dog and child friendly and gets on fine with his owners 5 year old grandchild. From what I can tell he is a friendly boy and I feel he will make a great family pet... but I haven't met him yet so we'll see. As hes still a pup at heart he will chew if left too long, so is going to need a home with someone around most of the time who will help this pup grow. Anyway thats all I can say for now, I will update you when I have him.

Currently in the rescue:
Waffle - 5 year old horse friendly whippet cross
Roxy - 1 year old loveable labrador cross
Patch - 6 year old collie cross
Barnaby - 2 year old collie x jack russel
Nya - 3 year old Akita
Tigger - 1 year old staffie cross
Gaynor - 5 year old staffie
Doris and Dixie - Pair of 10 year old jack russels
Hugo - 2 year old jack russel
Cinders - 10 year old poodle cross

Bracken - Lurcher
Taz - 7 year old jack russel
Boo - 2 year old collie
Biscuit - 7 month old labrador x mastiff pup
Vikki - 1 year old jack russel x chihuahua

Bobby - 2 year old yorkie
Now I really do feel for Bobby as he is a very scared young boy, who takes his time to gain trust from humans and who wants security. Once properly bonded however Bobby is lovely and will give his foster lots of kisses when she gets up in the morning. He is a great dog other than being scared, he loves his walks and has plenty of energy. He will be a great dog to live on a farm, where he can be off lead all day and not get fussed if he doesn't want it. He has great recall so letting him off lead is not a problem. Bobby clearly needs very understanding owners who will understand him and be very sympathetic in the way they treat him. He is not cat friendly and will not be rehomed with children.

Tinks Story

So a year ago this week we failed for the first time on a foster dog and adopted Tinks. After being with us a month, she had formed a special bond with the family and noone had showed any interest in her. Now although to us she is the perfect dog I never put her story in full on my blog, for fear it would remove any interest in her at all. The first day we got Tinks though she decided to run away, after being left outside for a short period of time with my friend checking on her regularly while I nipped out she found her way out. On my way home, while on my road I saw a little black dog running down and immediately stopped the car, realising that was my new foster dog, who we'd only had a matter of hours! Now Tinks originally lived in Barnsley so there was no way she was going to find her way home so it was a real worry and unfortunately I hadn't had time to give her a walk as I normally do to get her used to the area. Obviously when I pulled over I did shout her, to which she looked at me but as soon as I approached she bolted and ran right down the middle of the road where a van was coming down. Me being the stupid person I am, ran behind her to grab the vans attention, thankfully at this point he had slowed down and Tinks went back onto the path before there was an accident. At that point I had to give up and run to my house to alert my dad, friend and boyfriend and to start a full on search. Along with alerting the rescue, asking a friend who lived down the road to help out, alerting the vets and posting all over facebook about her. We saw her plenty of times but she was just impossible to catch as she is very nervous of strangers. My friend had left food down for her and seen her sitting in the park with some kids but she just would not go near her. She got the food but did not want to go to the hand that gave it. After being told she'd stopped traffic on a major road we carried on looking but decided after 3 hours it was time to stop for the night.

Now I was intending to go out that night and was told to carry on with my usual plans as we would find her, leaving my dad home I left it up to him to keep an eye out. Apparently he had seen her many times, as had everyone in the area but she was not giving in! Now I came home at around 2o'clock in the morning. 10 hours after she went missing! We'd asked the taxi driver if he'd seen a dog, to which his reply was he'd seen a little black dog running around all night... so at least he brought some light to the fact she had not gone too far. While leaving the taxi we did see her, luckily for us bolting up our steps, to which I followed her and slammed the gate behind her and went to open the back door. I will never know if it was just luck that she went up our steps or whether she had just given up but what I did know is she was back. And she came into the house so nervous with the saddest little face and she weed because she was so petrified I was going to shout at her. In fact all I wanted to do was hug her and make sure she was safe. I wasn't annoyed at her, more annoyed that she had caused so much worry, I was elated that she was home safe. I think right from that moment I knew I would keep her.

Now just to clarify Tinks is an escape artist, my garden is extremely secure, however Tinks managed to get out and has done many times since, even through all the wwork we've done to our fencing. Now we have a more reinforced garden however, with an extra gate at the bottom of our steps. I think there will always be certain houdini artists, that no matter how secure they can get out. All that matters though is they come back in one piece and that they are tagged and microchipped should they be picked up by someone else! I must exagerate though if you ever lose your pet please follow the info on http://www.westyorkshiredogrescue.co.uk/lostandfound.htm and don't give up looking!

Sorry for the random post, but as I have said I am foster free until the beginning of August now so I'll just try keep posting on here random posts.

Currently in the rescue:
Waffle - 5 year old horse friendly whippet cross
Roxy - 1 year old loveable labrador cross
Patch - 6 year old collie cross
Barnaby - 2 year old collie x jack russel

Hugo - 2 year old jack russel
Bobby - 2 year old yorkie
Cinders - 10 year old poodle cross

Bracken - Lurcher

Vikki - 1 year old jack russel x chiahuahua. Now I really do feel for Vikki, maybe because she reminds me of Tinks in a way. She is a very nervous young girl and will nip at the heels of strangers when she first meets them and will bark at dogs when on walks. This is purely out of fear and is not true aggression, as when she has formed a bond with her owner she is a very loyal loving dog. Vikki really does need understanding owners who are around most of the time to spend all their time with her and who can give her regular walks. Vikki can not be rehomed with children or cats, and will benefit from a kind gentle dog who will help calm her nerves. Poor Vikki has been in the rescue for well over a year now as people can not get past her nervous ways and do not understand what a loyal dog she will be in time.

Oh and please enjoy this weather but be careful with your dogs and DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN CARS!! and if outside just keep an eye on them and try cool them down with wet towels or maybe a quick dip in a pool :)

And hes gone

So last night Roo went to his forever home. After meeting up with the lady and her 2 dogs we went for a nice hour long walk in the fields by her house and what a lovely walk it was! There is a little river running along side it for Roo to jump in and rabbits to chase after. He was really having the time of his life running off the lead with the 2 lurchers who could easily run with him. He seems to have fallen for the crazier one (to put it) and followed her everywhere, including chasing a rabbit. I must admit I was scared for him when he went after it because I didn't think we'd get him back but not long after he came charging back at full speed with a big grin on his face, haha. On the walk Roo also discovered cows and although curious about them he was rather well behaved and I'm sure he will learn to ignore them in time. At the end of the walk was a great big section of water which Roo absolutely loved, the circles he did in and out of the water were so fun to watch and it was clear he was a very happy boy. So happy in fact that on the way back from the walk him and his new sister were charging quite happily and didn't think to look where they were running, resulting in me knocked flat on my back. I couldn't help but laugh though.

So when we got to the house Roo was still excited and the new environment meant he just wanted to play. Unfortunately one of his new sisters is quieter so told him off a few times, however Roo was very submissive and I think he has accepted he is the bottom of the pack. After this he did just want a cuddle though and jumped on my knee for one last cuddle. I must admit though leaving him was one of the hardest goodbyes I've had. I felt so guilty not being able to give him and his new family a proper goodbye but I'm sure he already had an feeling something was wrong so after a quick kiss on the head I left and tried to hold in the tears. It was made worse when dad asked if I was sad, then the tears fell and the thought of Roo not being a member of our family became obvious.

Fortunately Roo is doing well in his new home and did not whine over night, like I'd worried about. I just hope he knows that is his forever home and forgives me for letting him go to a better home than what we could ever give him. Anyway he is only a half hour drive away so I think some visits will be on the cards for the big man in the near future.

So for now I am foster dog free and after speaking to Kathy we have decided to leave me free for a while so I can look after another fosters foster dog (Patch) when she goes away for the weekend. I am then away for the last week in July so it may be a month till I get another dog! I Well lets wait and see about that because in rescue things can change in an instance and don't think I can survive that much time with only the girls in the house! haha.

Right so last time I posted saying I was going to add a rescue dog to each post on my blog... gosh thats a mouthful haha. So this post I'll talk about Cinders

So poor Cinders has been looking for her home for well over a year now. She is a 10 year old poodle cross and although she may not be the best looking dog in the world she really is a sweet girl. Although nervous with dogs when she first meets them she is fine after a careful introduction and would be best rehomed with another kind dog to help her confidence. Cinders needs experienced owners, who are in most of the time to accommodate her needs.

The list of other dogs with WYDR is the same as in my last post along with a 4 year old jack russel, a lurcher and a 2 year old border collie. All on the website, which you can access in the Dogs Looking for Homes tab at the top of the page :) Since I won't have a foster dog in a while now I may come on once a week just to update you with other dogs that are looking for their furever homes :D

Good News

So Roo had his viewing yesterday and to my disapointment he was very well behaved. Haha, so after a phone call today from the prospective owner Roo has his forever home. The ladies both came with their 2 whippets, who although are 11 year old acted much younger and had a good run around with Roo. To see Roo running wild with dogs his size was lovely and although one of the whippets did tell him off a few times he took it in his stride and just ran along as if she didn't do anything, which is always a good sign. They all seemed so perfect together so I will be quite happy to see Roo go to such a good home. Even better is they are nearby for frequent visits on my man!

Anyway since all is well I will be going up to his new owners house on Friday with him for a homecheck and hopefully to let him go to his new home. First we will all go for a walk however to get him used to the area and to ensure his two new sisters are okay with him and get used to him on neutral territory before he goes into his new home with them. In a way I can't wait to see him in his forever home but I will be very sad to see my man go, the bond we have is now rather amazing.

Now I am unsure as to what is next, we will probably leave it to next week to get a new dog but that obviously depends on who is due to come in. So I'l update you on that later in the week as I will let you know of Roos goodbyes.
