Amber Playing with Tinks

Heres Miss Playful Amber. As you can see she's a bit bigger than Tinks but she loves to play with her. To say she was supposed to be scared of other dogs I think she's done really well. Could end up with these 2 being the best of friends.

Amber

So meet Amber. The beautiful whippet (?) Cross. Her old owner did say that her breeder had said she wasn't whippet though but I think otherwise. She's just beautiful, has such a smooth coat with a big bushy waggy tail xD Seriously her tail has not stopped wagging since we met her. On first meeting Amber she barks like crazy but I can't tell if this is nervousness or pure excitement as like I said her tail would not stop wagging. We were told she's not good with dogs and is nervous of them however she's been fine with my 2. She totally ignores Sally because Sally ignores her but does harrass Tinks a little bit trying to play. So she would be best with a dog friendly dog that understands that tapping them doesn't mean they're trying to attack but is actually a sign of play.

Amber loves nothing more than cuddling up with you on the sofa. Shes so relaxed but when shes not asleep on the sofa she is full of energy. Her favourite game is hide and seek, she will go in another room and will wait for you  to hide a treat then will go back into the room and find it. She's very smart and knows her basic commands: Sit, Stay, Lie Down, On, Off and has good recall. She does pull on the lead slightly but I am now learning that holding 3 leads at the same time isn't the easiest thing in the world :P. Have ordered a lead splitter anyway for Tinks and Sally to make life a bit easier for me.

Amber has  the best smile and I have caught this in the photos. So you can see the beautiful new foster I have.

May I also add on Sunday it is Ambers 3rd birthday, so could anyone out there please make this girls birthday wish come true and provide her a loving home!

Foster Dog no. 9

So tomorrow I will be picking up my next foster dog. She is a 2 year old crossbreed, possibly whippet cross terrier? I'll post the pictures here and maybe you can post what you think she is? Nice to know people actually read this and interact with the rescue ;) So she is apparently a loveable affectionate dog who is extremely anxious around new people, dogs, loud noises etc. She really needs working with to bring her out of her she'll by the sounds of things. I'm hoping that Tinks and Sally should do the trick with her. As always I can't say much until I have her. It's hard to base a dog on what you have heard because sometimes your just given false information.

Well I will update tomorrow... if I remember.

Oh and Tinks is doing fantastically! We have bought her an agility course to train her some more and burn her energy down, she loves Sally more and more and shes no longer my little runaway. I love her... I think thats all that needs to be said :)

Cheshire County Fair

Dorry about the lack of updates. As I said I went away to London for the week, then I've had the dog show this weekend so I've had no time to post. On a more positive note we've nearly raised £450 in 2 days and theres still tomorrow to go... as long as the weather stays good. So thats great and doubt anyone there will read this blog but I would just like to give a big thank you to: Andy, the lovely man who has organised this fun dog show and is donating the money to us; Kirsty from Indago photography  for taking some amazing photos and donating all the money from the photo taking to the rescue, Kathy of course for taking me along to such an amazing event and every single person that has taken part in the Fun Dog Show as well as some very amazing dogs!

I can not begin to say how great a time I have had. I have met some fantastic people. This event was not only to raise money but to also raise awareness and in doing so we may have found some new fosterers for small dogs and also have found a very inspiring young girl. This 11 year old girl has being saving up all her pocket money and change this year and in December will be donating it to an animal charity. After finding out about us today she says it will go to our rescue simply because no money we get is for profit. It all goes straight towards the vet bills for the dogs. So I would like to thank this little girl for her generosity, just in the thought of it and hopefully she will do this at the end of the year. I just hope posting it here will inspire more people to do the same thing

I failed...

... but I won. Haha. Makes no sense does it? Well I failed at being a fosterer but I can't deny how happy I am that I am now officially Tinks' owner. Tinks was the girl that ran away the first day we got her, who we found in the middle of the night and who came in so scared we were going to shout at her that she weed. Tinks is also the girl who has settled in to the family. Who after time finally felt comfortable with where she was, and who learnt what a home was.

When Tinks first came she was so scared to go upstairs and on to any furniture. But now she'll happily jump in my bed at night and is happily layed next to me on the sofa now. Some people may not like their dogs on furniture but to me dogs are family, they can go wherever I go. And one of the best things about little Tinks is her and Sally are already starting to bond. Sally is not the kind of dog to try play with other dogs. She's 10 now and is just laid back with them all but with Tinks she'll happily play with her and seeing them both try to dog play together is the cutest thing. They will learn, but when you have an old dog used to an older dog who doesn't play and a dog thats never lived with other dogs... it must be strange. Anyway I think Tinks will do well with other foster dogs too, which brings me to that point. Yes I will continue to foster. The rescue are currently desperate for more fosterers and I couldn't let, not only them, but the dogs down by not helping out. So yeah, this house will become a mad 2/3 dog house from now on but I couldn't care less. Me and my dad love helping out and as my dad said if we ever won the lottery first thing we'd do is get a big house for more foster dogs so we could help out rescuing even more. We can dream, can we not?

Anyway I'm going to take my 2 girls for a nice walk now,I've put some pictures up of our walk yesterday with Tinks smiling happily being let off the lead in the fields. I will give this little girl the best life she deserves and update on here as she progresses, I'm going to continue the training and make her an even smarter dog. Haha.

A quick Learner

So yesterday I decided it was time to teach Tinks some basic training. Starting with the obvious sit command. After learning clicker training while I was at uni my aims always been to put it in practice. As I did with Phoebe, teaching her the basics. As Tinks is only young she's at the perfect age to learn new stuff and I taught her how to sit and after about 5 times she got the hand of it. Today I decided to test her with it again and make sure she had learnt it fully before starting the next 'trick'. She sat for me straight away on command and was obviously given a reward. I then went to teaching her lay which she got pretty much straight away. The hardest part is getting her to stand up after to try it again. I don't think she's 100% with the down command yet but we are getting there. It is only day 2 in the training don't forget. After laying I decided to see if she could roll over and Little Miss Smarty Pants did it straight away. I think it was a fluke though because she wouldn't do it the second time round. Lol. Anyway Tinks is a smart young girl who over time could learn a lot of tricks.

My Beautiful Tinks

I love Tinks to bits. I can't lie she is such a perfect little girl. She has such a gorgeous face, a huge smile and the cutest eyes. Okay, I can't lie I've fallen for her. I'm surprised she's still here to be honest. It must be that the pictures aren't doing her any justice as anyone who sees her says how adorable she is. Once we were walking a long and an old woman laughed at her and said 'Look at her socks'. Thats one of her best features her odd socks on all her feet. This brings me onto what breed she is? Well you tell me, we were told a Jack Russel Cross, but what with? She's just a little terrier and is such an individual... one in a million :)

Tinks loves seeing you after you've been at work or out. I've been doing a playscheme the past 2 weeks and every time I come home she jumps up with a huge grin on her face and goes to cuddle me. Today my dad walked her to come pick me up from the school and he let her off the lead and what a run up she had to me. She dived to me and let me pick her up for the biggest cuddle ever. I do love her to bits.
