Second Pound Trip of the Week

So yesterday I went on the second pound trip of the week. Although initially only going for one dog Kathy asked if we had room for another so of course I said yes and we took Sally and went to collect our next foster dogs.

Karma is a 5 year old male creamchinese crested powder puff x, maybe with some tibetan terrier? You take your own guesses there haha. Karmas hair was such a state when we got him, most of his back end was matted and has had to be cut out by me.. now I'm no dog groomer so he's not in the best state at the moment haha. He currently has kennel cough though so can't go to the groomers till that is gone. He is such a loving boy though, he gets along with everyone, and loves the girls. He is so friendly and his tail is constantly wagging. He loves a good cuddle and has clearly being loved in a past life, its just a shame he ended up in the pound. Karma is even house trained! He really is a great friendly teddy bear.

Blanche is a 5 year old female jack russel, with the strangest brindle coat. Blanche is very friendly and loving and will jump up when your on the sofa to cuddle up next to you. She does show a little bit of food agression towards the other dogs so we're having to feed her separately but other than that shes a great little dog. She is a real cutie and is only a little girl. Blanche is also house trained so for now I have a clean house! haha. Poor girl also has kennel cough, much worse than Karma and even has difficulty breathing through her nose properly because her nose is so blocked.

When these 2 are all recovered from their kennel cough they will be great pets and will make such loving companions.

Best Vet Trip

So darling little Primrose went to the vets this morning to get her dental and to get neutered. Upon seeing her the vet nurse totally fell in love and immediately took a picture to ask her boyfriend if they could adopt her. Obviously the answer was yes and Kathy was very happy to let the nurse adopt Prim, since she has previously adopted a pup off of the rescue and Kathy knows what a nice lady she is. So there was no point Prim coming back to us so she has gone with her new owner today where she will be meeting her new doggy friend, a cairn terrier. Poor Primrose was only left with 2 teeth after the dental but I have a feeling she will be much better now.

So another quick dog, 2 days, matching the record for quickest time to rehome a dog. So I will probably be off to the pound tomorrow to pick up the next foster dog up but will let you know then. :D

Oh and if people see this please please be aware Kathys internet is currently down, we are still rescuing and rehoming dogs as you can see by my blog. Do not give up on us! Kathy is trying to get it sorted but in the meantime if you wish to contact her please call her! Kathys number is on the West Yorkshire website, if she doesn't answer either leave a message or text and she will get back to you but you must realise she is very busy.

... and breathe

Finally I've got a break to update you all on whats been happening. As you all know Terry got rehomed on Monday. The couple who I mentioned before came to visit him, and worrying that he would be yappy and snappy I was rather impressed when they sat in the garden and he just walked around, eventually deciding to approach. He seemed to do well with the couples 3 dogs, 2 staffie crosses and a yorkshire terrier and although a little wary and scared of the 2 bigger ones, he did not snap at them and just shyed away if they got too close. He did however decide to try play with the yorkshire terrier, not properly but both had a little wag of the tail, as if to say they will be friends. It didn't take too long for the couple decide that they would rehome it and took him home the very same day. Apparently he is settling well, has only given warning bites when he has been scared and is taking to the ladies carers. I am so impressed with him, considering I saved him from the pound just hours before he was going to be put to sleep for being 'agressive'. In my opinion there is a big difference between an agressive dog and a frightened dog.

Anyway the rehoming of Terry could only mean one thing, that today after college I was off to the pound to pick up the next one. Now is for a little poodle cross (?) named Primrose. She has such a rotting mouth that it is actually sickening, the smell and the pus coming from it is horrendous. Poor little girl can not be comfy so she will be off to the vets on Friday to get all her teeth sorted and will probably end up with a lot out. Until we have had the teeth removed it is so difficult to tell her age. Her general health seems to be quite good and she seems to be in good condition other than the teeth. She is so tiny though, Tinks is at least twice as big as her. She's just like a little puppy... bless her. She is safe now though, and has being showered to wash away the pound memories and fed some wet food. She will feel so much better once her teeth are sorted, I am sure.

Oh and before I go I must give a big thank you to Terrys new owners who have donated a heaped pile of toys and other goodies for the dogs... donations are always appreciated for the rescue.

Fun in the Sun!

Terry seems to be getting better everyday. He has spent the past few days in the garden, in the sun with his 'girlfriend' Tinks. Whilst typing this he is layed in the basket next to her fast asleep. I think this weather has tired them both out.

Today I had another call from the lady interested in Terry, after speaking to her vets he has said to leave it 36 hours after the kennel cough vaccine but as Terry is due back in at the vets again next Monday we have both decided on leaving it a week, then at least it's safe for everyone. After going back to the vets today, the vet has said his chest is still very wheezy, especially on his right side and his temperature is a little high so its back on the antibiotics for Terry and then back again to the vets next week.

I have also learnt today Terry loves to play fetch and will bring them back to you :) He is such a good boy. Anyway for now I have peace so I'm going to get some work done,

A Lovely Day

Well for now the weather is lovely and the sun is out... okay it's just gone in but the dogs have had a nice day outside. The door has been open all day and I am happy to say Terry has been out most of the day playing with Tinks and I think it's fair to say he well and truly fancies my little girl! haha. When they aren't outside they are in bed, snuggling up while Tinks nibbles his collar! It's actually quite cute now he's stopped humping her constantly.

Terry is starting to recover from his kennel cough, he's only had a couple of coughs today but if it's not fully gone by Monday he'll be back to the vets for more antibiotics. Other than that though he is doing well. So well in fact a lady today has called very interested in Terry. With over 30 years of dog experience and experience volunteering with rescues she sounds perfect for Terry. Her and her husband live with there 3 dogs and the dogs seem to be the most important thing in their lives! So important that the lady is going to speak to her vet first before coming to visit Terry, as she couldn't bare coming and bringing the kennel cough home with her. Although I don't think it should be a problem, she is still being safe and checking with her vets first thing monday morning. If all goes well we may be on the way to Terry going to a new home :)

I would also like to give a quick mention about another dog I met today who is with the rescue. Angel is a 10+ year old, fawn miniature pinscher and she really is mini! Mini to the point she is all skin and bones, she came in with 2 other younger miniature pinschers, which are in a different foster so I didn't get to meet, after there owner died. Now we have no idea of the circumstances or why she is so skinny etc. so no judgements can be made here please. Angel will be on the website soon. She has been vaccinated today and has been flead and will be wormed in a few days. When Angel is up to a healthy weight, she will be neutered and be given a full dental. She is a lovely girl and just hops around after her foster mum, after only a day in foster! The vet even said how lovely she was!

Terry the Changed Little Boy

Terry is definitely starting to settle here now. Although he wasn't feeling too great Sunday, with diarhoea and coughing to the point he was sick, we took him to the vets on Monday to find he has bronchitis, which is on the kennel cough spectrum and he had a jab to take pressure off his throat and is now on antibiotics so should hopefully be better in no time. The vets also estimated him at 9/10 months of age so little boy is only a pup. He is on a good diet of Wainwrights and Nature Diet to help his stomach and get him back to a normal weight.

Although initially very worried about leaving Terry with my dad and the girls for a few days I went with it anyways and went to visit my boyfriend for just a couple of days. Although worrying we would be going two steps back with him I came back yesterday to a totally different dog. Terry is so much better now and has calmed down alot. He will now let me put him on a harness and today went on his first walk. Although he barked a lot at all the different things happening around him he loved it and is now fast asleep by the fire. Terry is so loving now and just wants to snuggle up and is no longer afraid of me moving him about. He will now only growl in a playful way and try nibble you when hes playing! So his puppy side is starting to come out, the worst bit being as he still has his puppy canines a little nibble does hurt! Terry is getting very playful now with Tinks and loves running around in the garden with her. His only problem is, as he is still intact, he gets a little... frisky, I guess I should put it around her and will chase her around the house just to hump her. Poor Tinks doesn't have a clue what he's doing. I have no idea why he fancies her so much, it must be because she is so beautiful :) hopefully though that will be solved when he is neutered, but we will wait till he has gained weight and recovered from the kennel cough before we get that done.

Although he is now much better with me we are getting a behaviourist in when he is better to work with him and prepare him for a new home. I am sure though with an experienced dog owner he will settle well in a new home and will be a lovely, loyal partner.

I'll try keep you up to date! But for now thats all, Lucy, TInks, Sally and Terry x

All settled

I forgot to post the other day that Bunny went to her new home... total memory block there. Bunnys new family came down all the way from Scotland on Sunday, after stopping overnight half way... talk about dedication! I was really surprised when they came to view her as she slowly went over and said hello, giving them a little lick on the hand. They had fetched some toys with them and gave her a snazzy new lead! And apparently at home 2 beds were waiting for her. Although Bunny didn't really want to go with them and was worried they were taking her away she sat in the car and was apparently very well behaved, getting hugs from her new parents all the way.

The couples daughter manages to email me every day updating me on how Bunny is getting along and by the sounds of it she is very very settled! More so than I expected to be honest. She has a big doggy family to look after her and a family around all the time to build up her confidence. It sounds like she is taking over the full house anyway, cuddling on the sofa with them, playing with her toys and getting way too spoilt for her own good! Not that it matters... in fact it's just what she needs. Bunny changed from this nervous little wreck to a beautiful fun pup who now has the best life she could have ever asked for!

Was going to do one big message here about how Terry is getting settled here as well but I think I'll leave that to the next post... so don't go away and that will be posted ^ up there shortly :)

Pictures

I have only just realised in the short time Bunny has been here I've hardly spoke about her on here, mainly due to her finding a home so quick but she has still been with me in my house, growing in confidence everyday. I must say it is with disappointment that I say Bunny is going to her new family tomorrow. I say disappointment because I have really fallen for her. Watching a dog, so nervous she wouldn't even approach me, grow into such a friendly hyper girl who just wants to give me a big slobbery kiss has been very emotional. So to see her go tomorrow will be a very sad/happy day. I will miss her and I'm sure Tinks will but she will be going to a very loving family and I'm sure she'll be just as loved there as she is here. Anyway I don't feel I need to say much about her since she will be going tomorrow but here are a few photos of her following the matted, scared girl that came into us... to this beautiful puppy!

So now onto Terry. Terry is slowly getting used to life in a home and is very loving towards me, wanting to be with me all the time. He is going to need very experienced dog owners though as he can snap when scared. It is all fear related though and he is a very scared young boy. He is only a pup really and I don't know how people can do this. I'm hoping that getting him neutered will calm him down, but trusting people again will take time, especially if he has been hurt by them in the past, which it seems to be. Terry definitely prefers women to men, he was so scared of my dad he just hid in a corner in the garden
and weed when my dad went near him. I feel so sorry for the poor little man but I know in time we will get him there.

Apologies

Wow, nearly a week without posting... oops. Sorry about that, guess  I just got caught up over Easter. Hope everyone had a good Easter and you ate lots of chocolate and I hope your dogs got none! Mine had a rawhide Easter egg which they loved.

Now in the space between me last posting Bunny has settled in nicely, although she is still a little nervous around my dad she has really taken a liking to me. She will come over when I ask with a waggy tail and is such a good girl. She has bonded so well that I have managed to teach her to sit down, in a day. She is so mischievous and is definitely a puppy, when left if theres anything chewable... she will chew it. Especially leather shoes! Mind you saying that, she managed to get hold of my brand new ones yesterday and other than having a few teeth marks in they are intact. If anything she just carries them about. Oh and tissues! I came home the other day to a full 9 pack of toilet roll shredded to pieces in my dads bedroom. And yesterday she ripped up a whole box of tissues. She really is a character and it is just her puppy behaviour coming out, which is nice to see after the state she came in! She is so funny and I really do love her.. and so does Tinks. She will often go to the basket which Tinks is in and curl up behind her, resting her head on Tinks'. She really loves her friend, she does try do it with Sally but Sally tells her off, which she does not care about one bit.

Bunny is such a little monkey that she will wake me up at 5 o'clock in the morning just to slobber all over me and mouth at my hand because she wants to play. I think its the only time Tinks really has a go at her because she just wants to go back to sleep. Bunny really is a great, fun dog! I say while she plays with a pringles box! Haha.

Now you may have noticed on Easter Sunday that Bunny did get a  home, they were waiting until today to adopt Bunny after their dogs had their kennel cough vaccine on Saturday. However their older dog has unfortunately reacted badly to the vaccination and not wanting to risk it catching the kennel cough they are no longer adopting Bunny. However we do have another family lined up in Scotland, with a 5 year old poodle for Bunny to play with and a beach nearby for some great walks. It seems like the ideal life for such a young girl and not only that but the couples daughter lives nearby with her 2 dogs, who I can imagine will be a big part of Bunnys future life! So the couple are coming on Sunday to view Bunny and take her if all goes well :)

Now yesterday I had an emergency phone call at half 8 in the morning from Kathy saying there was a little yorkie in the pound who was at risk of being put down because he was agressive. I immediately said I would take him so off to the pound I went. Considering I was told this dog was majorly agressive to see him cowering in the back of my crate in the car really made me think otherwise. This little boy is just extremely frightened. Terry is a tall yorkshire terrier, of about 1/2 years old, by the looks of his teeth. Now I must say I do not understand how he is all that agressive. He's snapped at me a couple of times, once for putting his collar on, and again for going near him with a harness but it just seems he has a fear of collars/leads/harnesses so that is something to work with. Other than that he is just a frightened little boy. To be honest he is actually quite friendly, at the moment he is curled up next to me, resting his head on my laptop... does that sound agressive? Last night he slept on my pillow, resting his head next to me and didn't make a noise all night. Terry is currently very skinny but he is already getting fed up and he loves his food! Terry really loves to be cuddled, if you walk anywhere he will follow you and jump up at the back of your legs. This is just a scared, young boy who needs time to trust humans again... like many pound dogs. Terry is very nervous around the dogs, especially bouncy Bunny who just wants to play! He just cowers in the corner and doesn't know what to do. He just needs a nice quiet home, maybe with an older, quiet dog who isn't going to overly fuss him. He hasn't shown any agression towards the dogs, even when Sally snapped at him for going near her with a bone he just cowered away and did not react...

Right I'm going to have to go anyway... I'm pretty sure Bunny has taken my shoe upstairs! :/ I will post again later with pictures if I get chance. I really need to get some college work done though and little Terry and my 2 bathed so I'll post later
